Student Learning Outcome Reflection

SLO A Appraise the elements of the information need.

B. Organize information

SLO A.1.Recognize how information systems (i.e., collections of recorded information) are organized in order to access relevant information.

SLO A.2. Demonstrate ability to use a variety of information technologies.

Applicable skills I learned from LRNR 30

During the course information concepts and research skills, we learned that reading and information literacy are two separate concepts that work in concert. We applied our personal learning history, created mind mapping chart, explored the library database, my favorite was JSTOR because it has lots of information on art. Exploring the library databases made me realize that the way information is organized makes all the difference to our ability to retrieve it.

Classification using the Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDC) is how the library catalog is organized (SLO B.1). We used OneSearch for many of our searches for articles, especially for the annotated bibliography.

during the course we used digital articles for readings, videos that engaged our understanding and curiosity, and created eportfolio and a children's literature banned book poster, which demonstrates digital literacy. Though most of the information used in this course is digital, we also looked at the many sources and formats that information is packaged in: the medium is the message! Applying various information formats in the annotated bibliography demonstrates my mastery of objective SLO B.2.

Reflection: Where do you predict these skills will assist you in your college or professional life?

Will you feel more confident telling a friend, or helping someone, locate accurate, credible, and factual information?

Do you feel more comfortable as a reader? Did your identity change at all?
