About Karrie Bullock

MLIS, Faculty Librarian and Professor

As a faculty librarian at Merced College I have had the deep honor to collaborate and learn from some terrific colleagues.  I am a campus Reading Apprenticeship facilitator, have organized an annual Poetry Slam for the campus, and am also the Book Club advisor.  Above all, I consider myself an educator within the discipline of information literacy and research.  I identify as she/her, and prefer that you refer to me as Karrie.

My Personal Learning History was a favorite project, and is one that I have done multiple times.  I think that in-person works best: break out sessions in zoom also work well.  The peer sharing element is one of the most important factors to a successful PLH: sharing your learning or reading history, full of its challenges, vulnerabilities and success, is important, but the act of hearing your words repeated through a peer is essential to the metacognitive process. Furthermore, sharing to the class helps build a strong class contract, social norms and trust.  Students (and faulty!) are reluctant in the beginning, but I always encourage: you get to talk about the most interesting person on the planet: YOURSELF!
